AMICO Assignment Set:
Case Study Exercise in Artistic Theme

Student instructions:

You are the personal assistant to eccentric billionaire Galway Minton. One day he stops by your office to ask your help on a special project.

“My wife and I will be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary next month. To express my love for her, I would like to give her a work of art for each decade we have been married. I want you to find six works - each expressing my thoughts about our relationship for that decade and one expressing my hopes for the future.”

He hands you this list:

  1. “Had we but world enough, and time,
This coyness, lady, were no crime.” 1
  1. “Alas! How light a cause may move
Dissension between hearts that love.” 2
  1. “Love is a growing, or full constant light
And his first minute, after noon, is night.” 3
  1. “Then fly betimes, for only they
Conquer love that run away.” 4
  1. “Love is done when Love’s begun
    Sages say,
    But have Sages known?” 5
  1. “There is no harvest for the heart alone;
The seed of love must be
    Eternally
    Resown.” 6

Using the AMICO database, choose a work of art for each of Mr. Minton’s quotations. Briefly explain your choices.

Also, we would like to post assignments from faculty of subscribing schools to make this area as rich and useful as possible.
