A private foundation has just announced an open competition
to design a monument honoring the National Endowment for the Arts. The
monument is to be erected in Washington, DC, at a location to be determined.
These are foundations entry guidelines:
- The Foundation
solicits designs for a monument honoring the 40th anniversary
of the National Endowment for the Arts.
- The competition
is open to all citizens of the United States of America and alien
residents of the United States.
- Entries
may be made by individuals or by groups of individuals working as
a team. No individual or group may participate in more than one design
entry.
- The monument
should be in appropriate scale, materials, and tone to installation
in a public building or park in Washington, DC.
- The monument
should reflect the diverse, multi-cultural heritage of the United
States.
- The monument
should make particular reference to works of art created in the United
States, or by American artists, in the years since the Endowment was
founded in 1965. These artists need not be past recipients of Endowment
support.
- Proposals
for the National Endowment for the Arts Monument should be in complete,
computerized form that can be transmitted via email to the Foundations
judges. Entrants may, at their option, include explanatory text outlining
the features and meaning of their entry.
- Entries
will remain the property of the Foundation and may be exhibited on
the Foundations web site.
- The Foundation
will award three prizes: a first prize of $150,000; a second prize
of $50,000; and a third prize of $10,000.

create an entry for the NEA monument competition that fits these guidelines.
